Skiing Trips for the Carbon Conscious Skier
Thousands of avid skiers will before long be looking for their ski trousers and dashing away in search of the heaviest snowfall. And beyond question the affect from our carbon footprint will be roughly as far down the list of holiday to dos as a xmas tree after the Christmas vacation. But last winter, a late snowfall hit the tabloids and tourists panicked about the smattering of snow melting almost as soon as they settled.
Skiing organisation Chalet 1802, placed at the base of Mount Blanc in Chamonix ski resort in the French Alps, is one of the first independent businesses to go carbon neutral and provide skiers an environmentally friendly alternative while booking their skiing holidays. Chalet 1802 proprietor Eostre stated: Last year was quite a shock with the most warm winter in fifty five yrs in France. Alpine ski areas like Chatel, Avoriaz and Flegere lacked clients. It was balmy and the snow did not last so much of the early skiing season in the French Alps was limited. We resolved to become carbon neutral to assist in the preservation the snowboarding resort.
Eostre said: We’re not seeking to dictate to guests only we consider its important to afford the guests the choice without increasing the price of the skiing holiday. When the customer book with us and vacations in our skiing chalet they can more than off set their carbon output and we soak up the additional costs. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub – people want luxuriousness but not at the expense of the alps mountains, so we looked at methods of decreasing the results of someone driving over here for a holiday.”
Chalet 1802 have moreover joined with charity Climate Care, who deals with climate change by making carbon dioxide reductions for individuals and businesses.
