VoIP Phone Service Saves you Money

January 11th, 2010

If you’re wondering how to save big money on your phone bills, VoIP can
help. VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. VoIP has gone from little known a few years ago to widespread use today. Why are millions of business and residential customers using VoIP everyday?

VoIP does not need landlines to operate. If you have a broadband connection to
the internet, you can call any phone, internet or landline in the country or
around the world. Making phone calls using VoIP can save you quite a bit. Most
residential users are charged $25 per month or less for unlimited calls made
throughout America and only a few pennies per minute for international calls. If
you want high quality calls without the high price look into VoIP.

VoIP provides some advantages not found on land-based lines, or traditional type
cell phones. By taking your VoIP phone along with you on a trip, you can
receive calls anywhere you can connect to the internet. This is great for
business travelers who spend a lot of their time on the phone in hotel rooms,
etc. VoIP phones can be easily used with other services available over the
Internet, including video conferencing , text messaging and data transferal.

You can use VoIP very easily. Most service provider give you a phone adapter
that is plugged into your broadband internet connect at home or special software
for downloading onto your computer. By using either your computer or a regular
landline phone attached to the adapter, you’ll soon be making phone calls
throughout the country or worldwide.

There a a few drawbacks associated with VoIP service. Emergency 911 calls are
currently unavailable with some VoIP providers. Be sure you have a back-up plan
for emergency situations. Also unlike those using a traditional land line phone,
you will be dependant on electrical power and your computer to make your calls.

Virgin Media Criticises BT’s Latest Broadband Promotional Deal

May 20th, 2009

In the highly competitive broadband market, negative publicity is quite common, as each company strives to outdo others, criticising the supposedly attractive deals of competitors.

BT’s latest “three months free” plan too intended to be one of the best deals available in the market. The package, which comes with download speeds of up to 8 MB and download limit of 10GB as part of an 18-month contract, was in fact attracting potential customers. To deliver a blow to the popularity of the deal, Virgin Media has come out with a damning analysis of its shortcomings.

Virgin points out that 8MB download speeds are only for the lucky few who happen to live near the telephone exchange. If you live farther away, the speeds get much lower. It also mentions the plight of the BT Option 1 customers for whom it is impossible to watch BBC iPlayer HD programmes on their computers, thanks to the problem of blocking of streaming speeds.

As an alternative to the BT deal, Virgin Media claims to have a flawless and affordable package at £25 per month with a 1-year contract, and a guaranteed speed of 10MB irrespective of the user’s location. The package also offers unlimited download, with restrictions, of course, as per fair usage policies. With unlimited calls to landlines for calls beginning with 01, 02, or 03 for weekends, according to Virgin Media its service is a cut above others. Manchester Gets ‘Fibre to the Premises’ Service

March 24th, 2009

The Manchester City Council had announced last year that it would be setting up a new Fibre to the Premises network in the area. According to the latest news from the council, the network has been approved and installation will soon begin. The work will start later this month with Oxford Road being one of the first few areas to get the new service.

After the initial stages for the installation of the FTTP networks is over, the focus will shift to spreading the network to neighbouring regions. The Central Park District will soon have its very own new Internet Hub, while a rollout will also take place in the East Manchester area. The launch is part of the Next Generation Digital City Project, which aims at giving better digital communication services through the use of state-of-the-art wireless systems and advanced fixed line broadband.

The superfast broadband service promises to deliver speeds to residents and businesses of up to 100 Mb, which is significantly faster than the existing networks in the area.

Neil Swannick, Executive Member for environment said after the announcement that it was necessary to make high-speed wireless broadband services accessible to all at rates that they could afford. He added that unless cities in the UK can match both the quality and the prices of broadband services in other major cities in Europe, they would always remain on the back foot in terms of business competitiveness.

The residents of Manchester are going to welcome the news of the network, but until the prices of such services become more reasonable across the UK, their adoption rates would always be on the lower side.

Finding a Mobile Phone Contract with Free Line Rental

July 28th, 2008

Most people tend to have little knowledge of free line rental offers due to them being quite a new phenomenon. It is likely that this fact that keeps them the lowest cost mobile cell phone deals around at the moment.

In theory a 12 month free contract wont cost anything to run. That is, as long as the customer concerned correctly makes a claim for cashback by redemption. This may not as easy as consumers are lead to think as mobile phone sellers build in quite a few potential snags with the fine detail of free line rental offers so as to control the volume of successful customers.

A free line rental contract is a form of one hundred percent cashback offer. With a 12 month free line rental contract you must continue to pay the phone bill as normal for the first months before you get your 100% cash back by redemption. Then it is up to you to remember to claim all expenses of the mobile cell phone back from the shop that sold you the mobile cell phone.

Free line rental is always going to be a trade off, because they are can only be found on older cell phones. The major drawback of free line rental products is the fact that if the worst happens and the company fold you cannot redeem your cash.

In spite of the complications of free line rental deals they are absolutely legitimate and it is possible to obtain 100% cost free cell phone for full duration of a 12 month contract.

Bar none, the most competitively priced method of buying a free line rental deal is on the WWW. As free line rental products are a niche product it is sensible to to use a cell phone comparison site to indentify the cheapest products at the time.
