A Poker Game a Day Keeps the Doctor Away
Maybe it was an apple, but I guess the idea behind is that doing something you really enjoy is ultimately good for you (although in moderation, as my mom would say). I’m not quite sure how we got to associate apples and Texas Holdem poker games, but I can say that we are not the first ones (and probably not the last ones either). After all, what could be better than food and leisure?
BBC has a whole television show on Food Poker, literally combining the arts of the kitchen with the skills of poker. The program shows two chefs who after receiving two food cards and picking 3 ingredients from 5 additional ingredients’ cards on the table, decide to either “fold” (if they think they won’t be able to prepare anything of culinary value with the available ingredients) or “pitch” their dishes to a panel of judges. .. Things you didn’t know about the Brits!
Then of course there are the Americans who have a poker menu… yes really, they do. Just like Thanksgiving is all about the Turkey, Super Bowl Sunday about finger-licking snack food, and the 4th of July is THE barbeque event of the year, poker nights have their own recipes.
And they have strict rules too, believe me! So if you are a big potato chip eater like I am, watch out: greasy fingers at the poker table apparently are a real no-no!
